The Laundry is open

August 6, 2011

My friend Jason posted that he had just finished 37 loads of laundry. I would die if I had that many, but I do have about six to process this week.

School starts on Monday. We have some errands to run today: Girlfriend time, then canning pears at Granny’s. I am hoping we will get some soul time in today because my soul is really parched right now.I will take it one moment at a time.

This weekend is different than last weekend already because the hubs is now working night shift. We have to be quiet during the day. I can’t go into my room until he is awake, and this makes doing the laundry harder.

Because you do laundry one load at a time and have some downtime in between, I can use the load washing as my timers. My music has to be lower key, so I am sticking with an 80s-90s station. I am folding clothes and putting them away while the loads run. As I get caught up on that, I am ironing…yea me! I am also planning to clean the bathroom…a good scouring clean, but not the ZONING I had planned on.

The system: I have four loads of laundry to fold and put away…this is before I wash anything. I am folding them, one at a time, while the towels are washing. I realized not long ago that I have lost most of my clothes pins, so I may have to make another trip to the DG…later when I do my errands.

I use the counter space to sort my laundry by either type or owner. I put everything from that load away before I move to the next load. I have towels on the line and sheets, so my drawer became free sooner than if I had dried them all the modern way. I am now washing my third load of clothes. I have four to go…these are the ones that I wash during the week.

I’m ready to move on! Next phase: organizing the kids’ drawers for school.

In ER’s room, I have pulled all her drawers out of her dressers for easier visualization.
One drawer is pajamas. One drawer is outfits to wear to school—it is big enough to hold ten outfits, so she is good to go for two weeks. One drawer is the misc pants and tops that don’t match anything right now. The final drawer is some long sleeve shirts that were mixed in with her laundry. She can always have one for an outer layer, but I don’t know when she will need it! This is all one dresser. She has one dresser with smaller drawers for socks and panties. There are drawers under her bed that hold more seasonal things, like bathing suits.

I am, at lunch time, at a stopping point with all of this. I feel as if I can go on with my day and have a life!!!!

Peace out!
